5 Ways Pit Bulls Make the Best Pals

By Olivia Hampton

If you are looking for a new furry addition to your family, it’s time to consider adopting a pit bull.

There’s a lot of misinformation about this sweet breed, and it's time to lay all of that negativity to rest. October is pit bull awareness month, so it is the perfect time to add one to your life. Here’s why you should make your new pal a pittie!

A Pit Bull’s loyalty is unmatched

In the early 1900s, pit bulls, also known as American Staffordshire terriers or a variety of other breed names, were known as a “Nanny Breed.” This meant that they were a top choice for families with young children. Parents could be ensured that their child was safe with a pittie, because they imprint on their family very quickly. These gentle land hippos will do anything to please their family and are an inherently tolerant and calm breed. In fact, the American Temperament Test Society reported that pit bulls pass their temperament test 87% of the time. That puts them as 4th best of 122 breeds tested, meaning they are one of the most affectionate, docile and least aggressive dogs.

Looking for a cuddle buddy? Pitties give the best snuggles!

This one comes from personal experience. Because of their loyalty, pit bulls love to be as close to their humans as possible. This makes them great pups to curl up on a couch to watch a movie with and a great companion to come home to. Some pitties will even give hugs on command!

Pit Bulls are some of the fastest learners.

Whether you love dog training or dread it, pit bulls are a great option if you want a well-trained dog. They tend to pick up on commands very quickly, which makes them a great breed for training. As long as they have lots of treats and positive reinforcement, you can potty train, leash train and crate train your pit bull fairly quickly when they’re young. Because of their mild temperament and ability to catch on to commands quickly, pit bulls also make great therapy dogs.

This breed loves to play!

From fetch to running laps with other dogs around the park, pit bulls are a great breed for those with an active lifestyle. Pitties are great to take on a hike or a run on the beach. You will have days and days of entertainment playing with your pit bull!
